Equally important as her performing and teaching work, Sara is a devoted advocate for social justice, specifically for women’s rights and for survivors of gender based and sexual violence.

A 2024-2025 Public Voices Fellow of the OpEd Project and Equality Now on Advancing the Rights of Women and Girls, Sara has written and spoken publicly about the impacts of sexual and gender based violence on individuals, communities and the world. She has also spoken as an expert by lived experience for Futures Without Violence’s live panel "Leave from Work for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking," offering a comprehensive overview of the employment laws that support survivors needing time off.

Sara is also a seasoned communications and external relations strategist specializing in advocacy, nonprofits, and political campaigns. She has worked both in-house and as a consultant on political campaigns at the national, state and local levels, overseeing and executing multifaceted campaigns from PR to digital and influencer strategy. Some past work includes:

  • CVIC was an 18-month initiative to scale evidence-based and community-led strategies to reduce gun violence and enhance public safety in communities across the country. President Biden announced CVIC on June 23, 2021 as part of his comprehensive strategy to address gun violence and the initiative was successfully implemented July 1, 2021 through December 2022 with support from 13 prominent philanthropies via Hyphen, a nonprofit intermediary maximizing the impact of federal policies through multi-sector partnerships. CVIC provided training, technical assistance, and peer learning to support grassroots CVI organizations in expanding their efforts and impact, and the Biden Administration brought together mayors, community experts, philanthropic leaders, and other prominent stakeholders to learn from each other and exchange best practices and innovations in cultivating true public safety. As Senior Vice President at Slingshot, which Hyphen brought on to run communications, Sara was instrumental in bringing the communications strategy for CVIC to fruition.

  • Working with Planned Parenthood and partner organizations, Sara ran communications operations on the ground for the Bans Off Our Bodies Day of Action in May of 2022, media training and preparing a diverse slate of spokespeople for interviews both in the lead up to and at the march itself. Sara spearheaded messaging and media relations with the Planned Parenthood Communications team before, during, and after the event.

  • Sara built the first comprehensive external relations program for the 400-person legal services organization in under a year to formalize voice and messaging, more than double media hits via strategic connections and opportunities, deepen government relations and overall create more avenues for sustainable growth. Under her guidance, the organization has seen increased attention as a legal expert in a rapidly changing media landscape, especially when hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers’ rights hang in the balance of countless injustices and crises from the federal administration.
